Work on Your Golf Swing Posture This Season Your golf swing posture is how you stand when you address the golf ball. A good, sound, solid base is vitally important to your swing and without a proper stance the rest of your swing will suffer. A strong foundation can lead to a repeatable swing, improving ball impact position and your overall game. Work on your swing posture everywhere.

Finding Your Golf Posture

To improve your golf swing posture, PGA Professional Suzy Whaley suggests first standing to the side, and standing tall. Bend your knees just slightly, so that you are still able to see the laces of your shoes. Allow your arms to loosely hang to your side, and then take your hands and put them flat on your quadriceps, just above your knees. Doing so should create a slightly forward lean in your back. This position, according to Whaley, is the way to address the ball and creates a straight line from your tailbone to your neck. From there, releasing your hands will reveal where you should be gripping the club. Repeating this daily will make a drastic improvement to your golf swing posture.

Golf Digest explains that it’s important to bend from your hip joints, not from your waist. The position you take to address the ball is something that you can easily change or implement into your game. Bending at the waist can cause a rounded back which makes finding a consistent swing difficult. To find the proper bending motion stand tall in front of a mirror. Then, tuck your fingertips into the joints at the front of your hips. Next, slightly tip your upper body forward, pushing your hips and backside out. Your shoulders should remain flat, and there should be a little flex in your knees.
