Your Golf Posture Can Always Be ImprovedWe’ve spent a lot of time talking about posture in your golf swing. Having the proper posture and stance can go a long way toward having a successful, repeatable golf swing. Any good structure, like a home or a city building, needs a solid base. All athletes need a solid base when performing. And all golfers, whether amateur or professional, need a sturdy posture before taking a swing. The swing is built from the ground up, and it starts with posture.

How Can I Improve My Posture?

Mike LaVauve, a PGA Professional at Kierland Golf Club, believes there are drills you can work on without a golf club in order to improve your posture. LaVauve is a firm believer in working on your pivot, as he sees many players who are tight in their hips during their torso turn. The more you can keep this moving during the offseason, the better off you will be when it comes time for golf season.

LaVaue suggests standing sideways in front of a mirror, and putting your hands across your chest or shoulder, as if you are hugging yourself. When you turn and face the mirror you should try to turn your hips all the way around so that they are completely facing the mirror. Your shoulders may end up being turned even further around. Once there, while balanced on your left foot, you should tilt your hips to the left and your head to the right. This creates a counterbalance on the left leg, which is the ideal finishing position. Try to remain balanced in this position, and then repeat!
