Drills to Add Power and Distance to Your SwingTaking steps to improve the power and distance in your golf swing will dramatically change your game. By generating more club speed you’ll increase your ball speed which ultimately increases the distance of your shots.

What Drills Can I Do?

2008 PGA Teacher of the Year Martin Hall provides a drill that you can do at any time that will help add power and distance to your shots, which is generated by getting “through the ball.” Adams describes his “Buckle Before Buttons” method, which refers to your belt buckle and the buttons on your shirt. You should stand with your left side against a wall. Cross your arms across your body, putting your right hand on your left shoulder, and vice versa. Then, take your backswing. As you come down, close the gap between your left hip and the wall, essentially thrusting it forward into the wall. As you turn through to complete your swing, push your buckle against the wall while keeping your shirt buttons away from the wall. Your torso will end up in a downward, “V-shaped” slope, with your shoulders being furthest away from the wall and your waist practically touching the wall. Adams’ drill is considered a power producer that helps you hit it farther and reduce spin on the ball.

Increase Your Competition

If you’ve taken steps to work through your swing and are ready to step onto the course against competition then consider joining the Westlake Golf Course Men’s Club. Established in 1968, it was designed for regular, serious players who want to establish and maintain a handicap while remaining active in tournaments and other club events. The Club plays every Wednesday and Saturday, year-round.
