Spieth’s Charge at Colonial A few weeks ago, Jordan Spieth made a late charge at Colonial. He didn’t have enough to win the tournament, but he proved a lot about himself.

Kevin Kisner, Victor

Kisner, the tournament’s victor, played well under the pressure Spieth placed on him. On the final day of the tournament, he birdied 10, 11, and 12 to take the lead. Kisner finished with a 4-under 66 on Sunday to claim victory after a clutch par save on 18th. It was a par save that he needed – he ended up beating Spieth by one stroke. Spieth had started the day five strokes off the lead.

What was Learned?

Spieth had previously missed consecutive cuts at The Players Championship and the AT&T Byron Nelson. He himself said, “I could look back at the end of the year and this could have been the most important round of the year.”

ESPN senior golf writer Bob Harig stated, “The man has a lot of grit. He went from what appeared to be on his way to a third straight missed cut to rallying to make the weekend to contending. He ultimately needed one more birdie, but that was a strong final 36-hole performance.”

When asked the question, ESPN senior golf editor Kevin Maguire offered, “That he just doesn’t give up. Through 27 holes, the defending champion at Colonia was on the brink of missing three straight cuts for the first time in his career. Then came a birdie-filled run that culminated with him playing his final 21 holes at Colonial in 7-under. That’s quite the turnaround for the two-time major champ.”
