Newly-Professional Scottish Golfers will Receive Funding There is only one golfer in the top 30 of the Official World Golf Rankings that hails from Scotland, Russell Knox. Scotland has also not seen a major champion since Paul Lawrie won the Open Championship in 1999. Thanks to a new initiative, Scottish Golf hopes to change this.

What’s the Purpose of the Program?

Offering a financial and support package to promising young amateur golfers will hopefully establish them on the European Tour while continuing to improve their game. It is Scottish Golf’s goal that they continue on a stable trajectory, eventually becoming some of the best in the world. In addition to funding, the program provides coaching and management support.

Sottish Golf’s chief executive Blane Dodds recently shared with the BBC, “It’s a stepping stone. If you look over the last few years, the young, talented golfers from Scotland haven’t fulfilled their potential. It’s about trying to help that process.” He continued, “The other element is when that talent in showing promise and ability to perform at a higher level, it’s ensuring all the other ancillary support is there so that they can perform when on the course.”

Already Having an Impact

Ewen Ferguson and Grant Forrest have already been selected to be the first players to benefit from the initiative. They will be guaranteed eight Challenge Tour starts. They were selected by the Scottish Golf performance committee, which determined that they had the best potential to reach the highest level of the game.

Even if you aren’t Paid, you Don’t Have to Spend a Fortune

Wouldn’t it be nice to be paid to go to the course every day? Unfortunately, that life is not possible for everyone. But, just because you’re not paid as a golfer doesn’t mean you must spend your life savings on the game! Consider purchasing the Westlake Eagle Card for you, or another golfer in your life. You pay $220 for a card worth $250, saving $30! The card can be used for anything the course has to offer, from greens fees to the driving range to pro shop merchandise.
