New Generation of Golfers Taking Over the SportThere was a time not so long ago when golf was dominated by a young Tiger Woods. Winning 14 majors, Tiger was dominant from the beginning of his career. With it appearing more and more likely that Tiger’s flame has been extinguished, it’s time to embrace the fact that there is a new crop of young golfers ready to take over the sport. These golfers have been competing against one another for a few years. Golf fans are in for a treat if they continue to compete against one another for decades to come.

A Young Generation of Golfers

Consider the fact that all of the following players have won at least one tournament this year.

  • Jordan Spieth, age 23
  • Justin Thomas, age 24
  • Hideki Matsuyama, age 25
  • Jon Rahm, age 22
  • Cody Gribble, age 26
  • Mackenzie Hughes, age 26
  • Hudson Swafford, age 29
  • Rickie Fowler, age 28
  • Adam Hadwin, age 29

Dustin Johnson, the top-ranked golfer in the world, is 32. Rory McIlroy is only 27. Jason Day is 29 years old. These are all names that you have heard of and are familiar with, as they consistently dominate golf headlines. They should continue to do so into the future, as any one of these golfers – and many others on Tour – can win a tournament on any given day.

Good for The Sport

Tiger paved the way for this crop of young golfers to be successful. These young golfers will prove healthy for the sport of golf, inspiring a new generation to pick up clubs. If you think golf is the game for your child or grandchild, don’t hesitate to get them started early – Tiger appeared on The Mike Douglas Show at age 2! The Westlake Junior Golf Program is the perfect opportunity for the young golfer in your life. The program is open to boys and girls ages 8 to 17. Juniors in the program attend group lessons, swing and short game clinics, a rules and etiquette clinic, evening contests, and weekly tournaments. A fun program, all lessons, and clinics are taught by Westlake’s own golf professionals.
