Local Golfer to Attend Oklahoma State on Golf Scholarship Matthew Wolff, a local senior golfer at Westlake High School, has recently committed to golf at Oklahoma State beginning in Fall 2017.

The Commitment Process

Wolff had a feeling that he wanted to attend Oklahoma State as soon as he stepped on campus for an unofficial visit. Wolff committed to OSU after considering UCLA, Oregon, Florida, Texas, Stanford, and Wake Forest. Wolff told Golfweek, “It was a hard decision, but I feel like I had the right people around me and Oklahoma State felt like the right choice. I liked the coaches there. I think they are the best in college golf. You couldn’t ask for better coaches. They are supportive, they push you, and they know the keys to move you into a great college career and pro career.” Wolff continued, “OSU golf is a legacy, and even to be thought of as being part of that legacy is awesome.”

Wolff had originally committed to USC, but admitted, “I was overwhelmed when I committed to USC. I wasn’t sure what my future in golf would be. I jumped on it and wanted to feel safe. But I realized – and nothing against USC; I have the utmost respect for their program – I just wanted to explore my options and see if there was a school out there that fit me better.”

Wolff was Golfweek’s Class of 2017 No. 4-ranked male golfer.

A Successful High School Career

In 2014, Wolff competed in the championship match of the 2014 Polo Golf Junior Classic where he lost to Spencer Soosman, a teammate at Westlake High School. He finished in second. During the recruitment process, there was speculation that Wolff would join Soosman, who had committed to UCLA.

Wolff was a Rolex Junior All-American after a 2015 season that produced five top-10 finishes in national events, including finishing tied for third at The PING Invitational. Wolff was ranked No. 7 in the Polo Golf Rankings, which ranks golfers in the American Junior Golf Association. He competed on the Wyndham Cup West Team in 2015 and 2016.

Wolff was one of 54 participants that competed in the 2016 Junior Invitational at Sage Valley Golf Club. Wolff was invited to play in the event, which attracted the premier junior players around the world. He finished tied for 13th.

Wolff also helped lead Westlake High School in the 2016 CIF SCGA Southern California Regional Championship at Brookside Golf Course. Wolff shot a 4-under 68 as Westlake advanced to compete for its third straight State title.
