In a couple months, some of the best amateur golfers in the world will flock to Myrtle Beach, SC for the 2017 Amateur Long Drive World Championships. This marks the first year of the tournament.
Who Is Eligible?
The Open Championships will be held August 25th and 26th at Legends Golf & Resort. There will be divisions for both men and women in the following brackets:
- Youth
- Adult
- Senior
- Super Senior
- PGA (club) Professionals – Long Drive professionals aren’t permitted
The tournament won’t only crown winners for each division, but will eventually crown an Amateur World Open Men’s Champion and an Amateur World Open Women’s Champion.
Event organizer Jeff Gilder said, “We’re very excited about this inaugural event. As golfers, we’ve all heard ‘drive for show and putt for dough.’ We’re all about ‘Drive for show.’ We encourage anyone (except professional long drive competitors) to come out and compete for the chance to become World Champion.”

The ParaLong Drive Cup
There is also a division for ParaLong Drive hitters. Golfers that are eligible to compete in this division have overcome amputation, paraplegia, blindness, cerebral palsy, and traumatic brain injury. The winner of the cup will then complete against other Amateur Long Drive World Championship contestants for a shot at a World Open title.
